51±¬ÁÏÍø professors, administrators and alumni made regional and national news in recent weeks through their research and activities, both on and off campus. Notable this August was Elon's continued praise in the annual U.S.News & World Report rankings. The following list should not be considered exhaustive and does not include all athletics news.

July 2010: Glamour: “The New Sexed-Up Office” quotes law professor Catherine Dunham on the risks that today’s young women assume when “going along” with sexual harassment in the workplace. (Not currently posted online)

7/31: Miami Herald: profiles Elon Phoenix baseball pitching standout Jimmy Reyes, who was drafted this spring by the Texas Rangers.

8/1: The (Harrisburg, Pa.) Patriot-News: is a profile of a 1999 alum whose family owns and operates the Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania.

8/4: News 14 Carolina: The statewide 24-hour cable news channel reports on Elon’s sustainability efforts through an earth-friendly heating and cooling system being installed for the Colonnades residence halls. 8/6: The (Durham, N.C.) Herald-Sun: recounts professor Brian Digre’s experience in the Middle East this summer as part of a 2010 Fulbright-Hays summer seminar award.

8/9: North Carolina News Network: Assistant professor Dion Farganis talks with radio network about the possibility of President Barack Obama making a third nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court.

8/12: (High Point, N.C.) High Point Enterprise: uses results from the 51±¬ÁÏÍø Poll, and context by assistant professor and assistant poll director Mileah Kromer, to show how the Iraq war does not resonate like it once did with the electorate.

8/13: (Greensboro, N.C.) News & Record: cites assistant professor Mileah Kromer on the power and structure of state government.

8/14: (Burlington, N.C.) Times-News: “ABSS: Going from good to great” was a guest column penned by David Cooper, dean of the School of Education, on recent test scores for schools in Alamance County. (Not currently posted online)

8/14: (High Point, N.C.) High Point Enterprise: quotes assistant professor Mark Kurt on the lag between company profits and improving employment rates.

8/15: (Greensboro, N.C.) News & Record: quotes Provost Steven House on the university’s plans for the upcoming school year.

August 2010: Sierra Magazine: lists Elon among the most environmentally friendly colleges and universities in the Sierra Club’s annual rankings. 8/17: Voice of America (URDU TV and Express TV) via “The Platform”: In a live television broadcast in Pakistan from the Office of University Relations on campus, assistant professor Jason Kirk was one of a handful of experts who discussed nuclear topics as the relate to the United States, India and Pakistan. 8/17: U.S.News & World Report: ranks Elon #2 among 118 Southern universities, the top North Carolina school in the category, and the university leads the nation in a U.S. News “Focus on Student Success” ranking of key programs that enrich the college experience. 8/21: News 14 Carolina: “InDepth” is a weekly segment that looks at issues of the day, and on Aug. 21, associate professor Hunter Bacot, director of the 51±¬ÁÏÍø Poll, talked with news anchor Tracey Early about the political impact of the economy and Obama’s poll numbers. 8/22: PARADE Magazine: names Elon one of the nation’s top private schools based on feedback from high school guidance counselors. PARADE has a circulation of 32 million readers and is the most widely read magazine in the United States.

8/22: (Burlington, N.C.) Times-News: reports on the number of women seeking, and winning, political office in recent years. The article quotes assistant professor Mileah Kromer, who has researched the role gender plays in politics.

8/24: (Burlington, N.C.) Times-News: is a story on the Elon Medallion ceremony from the opening ceremony on Planning Week 2010.

8/26: Gaston Gazette: tells the story of Jim Collins ’74, the assistant defensive coordinator for Duke University’s football team, and his allegiance to the Blue Devils as they prepare to play his alma mater in football to open the 2010 season on Sept. 4.

8/30: (Burlington, N.C.) Times-News: reported on move-in day for new students.

9/3: Cleveland Jewish News: shares the story of Louis Rittberger ’06 and his efforts to raise money in the fight against MS, a disease his mother battles.

9/3: The Business Journal of the Greater Triad: reports on plans that Elon is studying for opening a sixth graduate program.

9/5: (Burlington, N.C.) Times-News: profiles Nick Ochsner, who is managing three North Carolina political campaigns this fall while volunteering for a fourth.
