NC Court of Appeals proceedings at Elon Law – Feb. 3

The North Carolina Court of Appeals will hold proceedings in the Robert E. Long Courtroom at Elon Law on Tuesday, Feb. 3, followed by a discussion with Elon Law students and a reception with judges and members of the legal community.

Judges Rick Elmore, Mark Davis and John M. Tyson will preside over the proceedings, which begin at 1:30 at Elon Law. The two cases scheduled for argument are State v. Williams (14-1101) and State v. Sheets (14-1102). 

Judges Elmore, Davis and Tyson will participate in a question and answer forum with Elon Law students following court proceedings at 4 pm, followed by a 4:30 pm reception with students, faculty and staff of Elon Law and the broader legal community. 

reviews the proceedings that occurred in the trial courts for errors of law or legal procedure; it decides only questions of law – not questions of fact. All cases appealed from the Superior and District courts in civil and criminal cases, except capital murder cases in which the Superior Court pronounces a judgment imposing the death penalty, are heard by the Court of Appeals.
