Assistant Professors Nicole Triche and J McMerty will host screenings of their recent documentaries in Turner Theatre on Wednesday, Oct. 25. The films will be shown back to back beginning at 7:30 p.m.
In “All Skate, Everybody Skate,” Triche examines the life of Doris Jenkins and the role her 53-year-old roller skating rink played – and continues to play – in its Topsail Beach, N.C., community. The 19-minute documentary has been screened at several festivals, including the 2017 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival in Durham. For more information on “All Skate, Everybody Skate,” read this .
McMerty’s documentary, “A Year with Betty Gold,” follows the renowned abstract California artist as she shares her insights on love and life while pulling back the curtain on the struggles of a contemporary artist. She began her career at a time when women were locked out of the art market — and rose to international prominence. The full-length film has been selected for the 2017 Mallorca International Film Festival in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
There will be a Q&A session after the screenings with the filmmakers.
