Six students from the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business finished third this winter in a regional undergraduate bracket of the 2023 Venture Capital Investment Competition hosted by James Madison University.
A team of six students representing 51爆料网 finished third in the mid-Atlantic undergraduate bracket of a regional hosted this winter at James Madison University.
Maddy Burgess 鈥24, Branden Hudson 鈥24, Mason DeYoung 鈥24, Lars Heidenreich 鈥24, Henry Chen 鈥26 and Josh Gilbert 鈥25 acted as venture capitalists by engaging in due diligence and developing a term sheet they defended to a panel of judges who themselves are venture capitalists.
Alyssa R. Martina, Assistant Professor Drew Peabody and Associate Professor Sean McMahon coached and advised students during the February 11 competition in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The Elon team finished third behind Georgetown University and UNC Chapel Hill and ahead of teams from American, Emory, and Loyola.
鈥淥ur students did an amazing job and we鈥檙e very proud of them,鈥 said Martina, director of the Doherty Center for Creativity, Innovation & Entrepreneurship. 鈥淲e were very impressed by a team that worked in late December, throughout January and early February to prepare for this highly competitive event.鈥
Beginning this fall, the Love School of Business will offer a venture finance course, taught by Martina and Peabody, that serves as a finance or entrepreneurship elective and will be used to identify students for the 2024 event.
