Her session, “Global opportunities in pre service teacher education: Study abroad, student teaching abroad, and service learning abroad in physical education”, examined current research in the field as well as Dr. Stringer’s own experience as a student teacher abroad, a k-12 teacher abroad, and a university supervisor of one student teaching abroad.

Last spring Elon sent two students to the Marion Baker School in San Jose, Costa Rica, to complete their student teaching requirement.

Alec French honored with Lifetime Achievement Award /u/news/2008/11/24/alec-french-honored-with-lifetime-achievement-award/ Mon, 24 Nov 2008 19:24:00 +0000 /u/news/2008/11/24/alec-french-honored-with-lifetime-achievement-award/ Alec French, adjunct professor in the department of Health and Human Performance, was honored with the “PEA Lifetime Achievement Award”, Nov. 21st, by the North Carolina Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance at their annual convention in Winston-Salem, NC.

Alec has served as an elementary school health and physical education teacher for over 20 years with the Alamance-Burlington School System. He has also been a member of the adjunct faculty at Elon for over 10 years. Alec has been involved as a physical education leader in local, state, and national professional organizations and has earned numerous awards including the PEA Honor Award and Teacher of the Year.

The presentation “ Promoting your Physical Education Program” was supported by two Health and Physical Education students, Susannah Gianakos (’09) and Katherine Molzon (’10) who assisted Dr. Stringer with the research for the conference presentation. This material was an extension of research presented at the national AAHPERD convention this past spring in Forth Worth, TX on “Advocating for your Physical Education Program”.
