Spring Fashion Show – May 7 in McKinnon

This year’s Spring Fashion Show, J’adore, will be held tonight, Friday – May 7 at 7:00 p.m. in McKinnon Hall. The show will highlight this season’s trends from several local boutiques and major retailers.

Tickets can be purchased by at the door for $3. All proceeds will benefit earthquake relief efforts and the African-American Scholarship Fund.

Scholarship Deadline Extended: April 2

The deadline for the Mr. and Miss. BCS Scholarship has been extended to Friday, April 2 at 5 p.m. The scholarship is open to male and female non-graduating students of a multicultural background. You may pick up the applications from Janice Ratliff in Moseley 206 (Student Development).

Award recipients will receive:

formal recognition at the Black Excellence Awards on April 24

“Does it Really Matter?” – March 16

Does having an African-American president change American perspective on race? Are initiatives such as affirmative action still necessary? Are we really living in a post-racial society?

Join us in this enlightening discussion as we explore how race relations are or aren’t relevant today and determine does race really matter in this contemporary society? The event is Tuesday, March 16, at 7 p.m. in McKinnon D.

The Black Cultural Society will provide two students with its “Annual Mr. and Miss BCS Scholarship.” The scholarship is open to male and female non-graduating students of a multicultural background.

Each recipient will receive:
• A $250 academic scholarship
• Formal recognition at the Black Excellence Awards on April 24.

Scholarship applications are available in Moseley 206 (Student Development) from Janice Ratliff. The deadline for applications is Monday, March 29th, at 5 pm.

Remember to join the Black Cultural Society each Thursday at 6:30 pm in the Commuter Lounge for General Body meetings.

“Upholding the Legacy: Embracing the Movement” is program honoring some historical themes of the Civil Rights Movement through artistic talent. Various student organizations will be portraying significant events through song, spoken word, and event reenactment. Light hors d’oeuvres will be serving during the program.

Donate to a Christmas Cheer Family

This Monday through Friday, the Black Cultural Society will be raising money to support an adopted family for the Christmas holiday season. Your donations will contribute to purchasing a Christmas dinner, gifts, and other financial assistance for a economically disadvantaged family. Your donations will help make a merrier Christmas for those struggling during the current economic climate.

We will be accepting meal plans, Phoenix cash, and loose change in the Moseley Center.
