Fulkerson, Rauhe present at NACAS Nation Conference in Colorado Spring /u/news/2017/11/28/fulkerson-rauhe-present-at-nacas-nation-conference-in-colorado-spring/ Tue, 28 Nov 2017 15:35:00 +0000 /u/news/2017/11/28/fulkerson-rauhe-present-at-nacas-nation-conference-in-colorado-spring/ Chris Fulkerson, assistant vice president for administrative services, and Janet Rauhe, manager of Phoenix Card services, presented at the National Association of College Auxiliary Services (NACAS) national conference in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on Nov. 4-7, 2017.

Their topic, “Engaging Off-Campus Merchants Through Campus Card Systems,” described how 51爆料网 engages more than 50 community merchants through its Phoenix Card system.  Students utilize one card to gain access to their residence halls, enter dining halls, print and copy, purchase through vending, buy food at 12 on-campus restaurants, attend campus events, and pay for laundry.

When Elon students leave campus, they can shop at a grocery store, pharmacies, or clothing boutiques; relax at a spa; get caffeinated at a coffee house or eat at a wide variety of restaurants by carrying only their Phoenix Card.

Responses from Community Merchants regarding accepting the Phoenix Card:

“Overall, the Phoenix Cash program is very user-friendly and has a great deal of benefits considering the cost is very minimal.” — Rebecca Kinlaw, Lowe’s Foods

“Being a Phoenix Card merchant gives us access to the students in a more visible manner. Janet and her team offer the merchants opportunities to be front and center before the students, both at events, on the website, and in offering them coupons at certain times.” — Amy Nakhle, Smitty’s Homemade Ice Cream

“For The Oak House, this was a “no-brainer” because the vast majority of our clientele use Phoenix Cash regularly and they find it extremely convenient to do so in our location.  We would lose sales without it.”  — Phil Smith, The Oak House

“We accept Phoenix Cash because it allows us to stand out as a respected establishment to choose from.  It also puts us in a category of locations that students otherwise might not frequent because of their ability to spend money.” — Peter Ustach, Pandora’s Pies

Student responses about Community Merchants:

“Using Phoenix Cash off campus is great because it helps me consolidate everything in my wallet. The same card that swipes me into campus buildings also pays for my meal, if I’m not dining at an on-campus location.” – Olivia ’18

“I love using my Phoenix Card off-campus because it means I only have to carry one card around!” – Kate ‘18

“I love using my Phoenix Card off campus! Combining my Wells Fargo account with my Phoenix card is the best because I only have to carry one card with me.” – Maddy ‘18

Chris Fulkerson presents to Datatel’s National Executive Forum /u/news/2011/03/23/chris-fulkerson-presents-to-datatels-national-executive-forum/ Wed, 23 Mar 2011 13:13:00 +0000 /u/news/2011/03/23/chris-fulkerson-presents-to-datatels-national-executive-forum/

Chris Fulkerson, assistant vice president/CIO, presented to the Executive Forum at the national Datatel Users Group meeting held at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in Washington, DC on March 6th. As part of the Datatel Users Group meeting, the Executive Forum is an all day program for Presidents, CIO’s and other executives of colleges and universities.

Mr. Fulkerson’s topic was “Preparing for the Inevitable Technology Changes.” He presented how 51爆料网 uses its technology planning process to strategically prepare the University for the new and constantly changing technologies. In his discussion, he talked about how Elon is moving to virtual desktop and virtual applications. The move to a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) is in anticipation of increasingly mobile computing. With the VDI, a student is able to log into a computer lab virtually, using any mobile device such as a laptop (Windows or Macintosh), an iPad type of tablet or any other mobile device that has access to the internet. Using a browser, students can log into an Elon virtual computer lab from anywhere in the world. The computer they access will actually be running on a server, yet look and function just like any computer that they normally use in a lab setting. No longer are they bound by a room or the hours of a computer lab—virtually any room or space can become a computer lab as long as they have access to the internet.

The virtual application project is slightly different. 51爆料网 has virtualized applications that students, faculty and staff use occasionally. Rather than buy everyone a copy of the software just in case they use it, Elon provides the software for when they need it. For example, a faculty member may need to use a particular software 3 or 4 times a year. Rather than purchase a copy of the software for that faculty member, they can use the software that is housed and operated on a server. All the processing takes place on the server sending images of what is taking place back to the faculty member’s computer. Virtual applications allow for better control of resources for licensing software.

Chris Fulkerson and Rhonda Belton present to SEDUG Conference /u/news/2009/12/11/chris-fulkerson-and-rhonda-belton-present-to-sedug-conference/ Fri, 11 Dec 2009 21:43:00 +0000 /u/news/2009/12/11/chris-fulkerson-and-rhonda-belton-present-to-sedug-conference/ Their session, “The Need for a Security Audit,” discussed how institutions of higher education can benefit from a security audit using an external auditor. Faculty, Staff and Students to change passwords TODAY, Sept. 9. /u/news/2009/09/09/faculty-staff-and-students-to-change-passwords-today-sept-9/ Wed, 09 Sep 2009 13:12:00 +0000 /u/news/2009/09/09/faculty-staff-and-students-to-change-passwords-today-sept-9/ Tomorrow, September 9th, all 51爆料网 faculty, staff and students will have to change their password to a new one prior to using email, Blackboard or Elon’s electronic services. Remember to choose a secure password using at least eight (8) characters of which at least two (2) must be numbers, one (1) must be a capital letter, and one (1) must be a lowercase letter.

As part of 51爆料网’s ongoing efforts to improve network security, all passwords will expire at 7:00 AM Wednesday forcing all campus users to change their login password. This password is used to log into university owned desktop/laptop computers as well as log into email, Blackboard and other electronic services.

Faculty and staff will make the change when they log into their computer on campus. Students will make the change by logging into a computer in a computer lab or by going to Elon’s new password maintenance site. The domains are FS for faculty and staff; AS for all students.

The password change does not apply to OnTrack or Datatel. The passwords to Datatel and OnTrack are separate from the Email password.

51爆料网’s New Password Maintenance Site:

Another effort to improve network security is the new password maintenance website. This is the official location for you to reset your Elon password. Everyone will need to enroll and provide three security questions and answers. Once enrolled, if the password is ever forgotten, users can use the “Reset Password” link to answer questions and change the password. Use the “Update Enrollment” link at any time to change security questions and/or answers.

Any questions, please contact the 51爆料网 Technology Help Desk at 336-278-5200.
