Five pairs awoke, ready to pound the water. They packed their cars and drove off to Cane Creek. It was busy, over 20 cars lined up by the time the team arrived. After finally making it through the line and acquiring the motors for the boats, the team set off on a historic day. Kellen hooked up with a 4lb 9oz fatty on his third cast, and followed up quickly after with two 3.5lb lunkers. Sam and Eric also hit it big with a couple of fish weighing over 6 and 7 pounds. Everyone else caught some fish, too, although sizes haven’t yet been provided. There is one more tournament left.

Everyone got to play at least a point in each game. Sunday was bracket play and since there is only one bid to nationals from Elon’s region, they had to win every game in order to advance. Women’s Club Soccer Wins Senior Game  /u/news/2016/04/26/womens-club-soccer-wins-senior-game/ Tue, 26 Apr 2016 17:20:00 +0000 /u/news/2016/04/26/womens-club-soccer-wins-senior-game/ On Sunday April 17th, the women’s club soccer team took the field for their last game of their spring season. Prior to kickoff, the team honored their nine graduating seniors with flowers and posters, informing fans present about their contributions to the team. Elon’s energy was high, and with about 15 minutes left in the half, Danielle Fowler sent a through ball to Kat Black; Kat was then taken down by the goalie, earning and capitalizing on a penalty kick. Second half High Point came back with an early goal, but high pressure from Elon earned Kat another goal, ending the game at 2-1. It was a high pressure, well fought match and a wonderful way to send off EWCS nine seniors, Jackie Atwater, Dre D’Souza, Carly Kasten, Katie Dalton, Grace Rubinger, Anna Vreeland, Emma Gierman, Carolyn Powell, and Bri Moragne.

Men's fishing club doesn’t let rain ruin tournament /u/news/2016/04/10/mens-fishing-club-doesnt-let-rain-ruin-tournament/ Sun, 10 Apr 2016 17:55:00 +0000 /u/news/2016/04/10/mens-fishing-club-doesnt-let-rain-ruin-tournament/ The bass fishing team departed to Cane Creek at 6 a.m. and as they prepared their boats, it began to sprinkle lightly. 51±¬ÁÏÍø 10 minutes after launch, the downpour began and lasted for four hours. Luckily, the fish were biting.

Eric Goodnow and Kyle ‘Bass Slayer’ Ottaway hooked some baby back bass, while Ethan Massey and Kellen Sorensen threw the senkos as if their lives depended on it.

The dark horse team, Jack Faccibene and Spencer Howard, who had never fished Cane Creek before, were prepared, throwing purple worms and hooking the king fish of the tournament, a six- pound lunker.

By noon the wind had picked up and the rain had ceased, causing the bite to slow. Massey had one last chance to take Faccibene and Howard down, pulling a four-pound fish up to the side of the boat that suddenly spat the bait back at him. Devastated, Massey vowed never to lose a fish like that again. The team celebrated at Zaxby’s with chicken tenders.

The results:

First place: Jack Faccibene and  Spencer Howard
Second place: Kellen Sorensen and Ethan Massey

Third place: Eric Goodnow and Kyle “Bass Slayer” Ottaway
