Each month is framed by one of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and features a speaker from the community or campus on the topic. For March Institute we are focusing on goal 3, “Good Health and Well-being.” Megan Curling, Elon Year of Service Fellow at Cone Health and Alamance Regional Medical Center, will present on local efforts to promote health and health equity. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about health and well-being in both a global and local context.

There will be food and a raffle for a $25 Target and $25 Oak House gift card.

For October’s Institute we are focusing on goal 11, “Sustainable Cities and Communities.” Jessica Merricks, assistant professor of biology at Elon and co-founder of Clean Haw River, will present on local efforts surrounding clean water. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about sustainability in both a global and local context.

During this monthly gathering, Elon Volunteers! will help connect leaders and volunteers to each other and offer some professional development opportunities as well.

New mentoring wellness program for pre-teen girls launches /u/news/2023/08/30/new-mentoring-wellness-program-for-pre-teen-girls-launches/ Wed, 30 Aug 2023 17:46:02 +0000 /u/news/?p=957716 If you’re looking to get more involved in Alamance County, have a passion for working with children or empowering girls, then being a mentor with Dream Center Girls in Motion is the perfect opportunity! As a mentor you will be paired one-on-one with local elementary and middle school girls participating in the program. Together you will engage in fun and interactive activities and discussions centered around topics such as physical activity, mental health, body image, and stress. The program starts on Monday, Sept. 11 with an orientation meeting and the sessions will occur once a week on Mondays from 5:30-7 p.m. from Sept. 18 until Nov. 6 at the CityGate Dream Center. Carpooling can be arranged!

As a mentor you will receive 19 verified service hours and a free t-shirt!
