use of technology within your teaching, consider applying for a Technology Course Enhancement Grant. These grants can provide up to $4,000 for you or your team to fund technology-related projects. Based on the needs of the project, proposals may request funding for computer hardware and software,

travel to technology-related conferences or workshops, or travel to other institutions.

However, please act soon! This is a limited time offer, as all projects must be completed by May 31, 2001. PROPOSALS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY TUESDAY, MARCH 6.

By selecting the payroll deduction option, you can help month after month! You can also opt to give a one-time gift or receive a bill quarterly.

To aid Hurricane Katrina efforts, designate that all or part of your pledge be directed to one of the following:

– American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund

– Salvation Army Disaster Relief Fund, or

– United Way Disaster Relief Fund.

Look for your United Way pledge in the interoffice mail within the next day or so.

Building Community Online

Description: An online or virtual community is a gathering of people in an online ‘space’ who come, communicate and connect. In this workshop, we’ll explore the definition of community, examine the benefits of creating communities, see how to develop community in an existing environment, and experience sample online communities.

Blackboard – Discussion Fourms

9:20-10:20 a.m. Wed., March 16 or

2:10-3:10 p.m. Thursday, March 17

Description: In addition to the specifics of how to create online discussion forums, this workshop explains the do’s and don’ts of participating in and facilitating online discussions. Learn to design and effectively moderate a forum and become familiar with the terminology involved and management techniques.

These 45-minute sessions will be held at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in Belk 115.

Please attend to learn how to:

– Access library resources from off campus

– Get tech support when you’re desperate and

– Take quizzes, upload documents and avoid common pitfalls in Blackboard.

No additional sessions will be offered, so please attend. Please call our office (ext. 5000) with any questions.
