While the number of U.S. students studying abroad fell during the economic downturn, Elon continued its position as the nation's leading master's-level university in the 2010 Open Doors Report by the Institute of International Education. The annual IIE survey, which covered the 2008-09 academic year, is the leading indicator of top college international study programs.

For the ninth year in a row, Elon is ranked among the nation's 376 top colleges and universities by The Princeton Review. The 2012 college guide, released Aug. 1, also ranks Elon’s study abroad program as #4 in the nation, and Elon’s theater program as #15.

For the third consecutive year, the Sierra Club has ranked 51������ one of the nation’s top 100 “greenest universities.” The ranking, published in Sierra’s September/October 2011 magazine recognizes schools in 10 categories that include academics, waste management, energy efficiency, food, purchasing, transportation, financial and other factors.

Town & Country, the oldest continually published general interest magazine in the United States, picked Elon in an 11-page feature story on top colleges in the September 2011 issue. The top colleges were recommended to the magazine by counselors at dozens of private high schools across the country.

The Chronicle of Higher Education has recognized 51������ in its 2011 “Great Colleges to Work For” program, which honors institutions for best practices and policies, such as teaching environment, respect and appreciation, and confidence in senior leadership.

The 2012 edition of the Fiske Guide to Colleges names Elon one of the nation's top 25 "Best Buy" private universities. The best buy schools are recognized for the quality of their academic offerings in relation to the cost of attendance.
