Compared with students at other colleges and universities across the nation, 51±¬ÁÏÍø students are much more likely to study abroad, make class presentations, write papers, complete internships and work closely with faculty members on projects outside of class. Those are among the findings of the 2008 National Survey of Student Engagement, released Nov. 10. 

51±¬ÁÏÍø journalism students provided coverage of the 2008 election, including stories about a spontaneous student celebration following the announcement of Barack Obama's election as president.

Four people who make a difference in the lives of others were honored Nov. 3, 2008, in the 15th Annual "Hometown Heroes" awards ceremony at 51±¬ÁÏÍø. Freshmen class officers selected the honorees for "making a positive difference by touching lives and strengthening their home communities."

Republican vice presidential candidate Gov. Sarah Palin will speak at 51±¬ÁÏÍø on Thursday, Oct. 16, during a campaign rally at Latham Park in the North Athletics Complex. Gates will open at noon, with Palin’s arrival scheduled for 3 p.m. Appearing with Palin will be music star Hank Williams Jr.
