Assistant professor Jean Rattigan-Rohr made a trip this month to Portland, Ore., to observe Concordia University’s replication of a research project she developed at 51±¬ÁÏÍø.

51±¬ÁÏÍø senior Tyler West won 3rd place in the educational/instructional category of the student competition in the Broadcast Education Association Festival of Media Arts for a four-part series of videos on the Elon Academy’s “Go-4-College” program.

Mark Enfield, Assistant Professor of Education, and Bird Stasz, Associate Professor of Education, had an article published in the January edition of the Journal of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

Quilted artwork by an 51±¬ÁÏÍø junior was unveiled on Feb. 17 in a School of Education afternoon reception featuring the student and the Winter Term instructor who inspired her project.

Elon faculty members Carolyn Stuart and Mary Knight-McKenna, along with Elon special education majors Jordan McNeill and Kristen Marcickiewicz, made a presentation on Feb. 3 at the North Carolina Council for Exceptional Children (NC-CEC) conference.

An organization that represents private colleges in North Carolina has awarded 51±¬ÁÏÍø a grant of nearly $15,000 to fund a summer program for students about to graduate from local high schools and who make up the inaugural class of the Elon Academy college access program.

There may be no better way of encouraging children to read than by allowing them to choose a stack of new books for their home collections. On Wednesday evening, with the help of 51±¬ÁÏÍø students, that’s just what 22 elementary school students did with their tutors from the School of Education.

This month, Elon students from Dave Gammon's Science Without Borders class presented museum-style science demos to approximately 100 fourth-graders from Elon Elementary School.

Darris Means, assistant director of the Elon Academy, presented a session on the Elon Academy on Nov. 8 at the Southern Association for College Student Affairs Annual Conference in Panama City, Florida.

Alexa Darby, assistant professor of psychology, Richard Mihans, assistant professor of education and four former Elon students—Kirsten Gonzalez, Mary Lyons, Julie Goldstein and Kelly Anderson— had their paper, "The Influence of School Socioeconomic Status on First-Year Teachers’ Emotions," accepted for publication in Research in Education.
