Summer academy gives grad students hands-on experience

In one room on Tuesday, first and second graders place animals on a magnetic storyboard. Down the hall, older students listen to a tale of wombats. Children enrolled in a School of Education program are attending classes on campus this month for an enrichment academy that serves as an internship setting for current and future special needs teachers in Elon’s graduate education program.

Middle school students share lessons of leadership

Education and psychology faculty, alumni present research on service-learning

Three 51±¬ÁÏÍø faculty members and two recent graduates presented research papers June 11 to the 5th Annual Symposium on Service Learning and Civic Engagement at Western Carolina University. Their focus was the use of academic service-learning to challenge the stereotypical views often held by teacher candidates about students and families living in poverty.
