Catherine Lee, Emma Luparello and Julie Merritt will each receive a $21,900 scholarship for each of the next two years while working toward teacher licensure as part of their studies in mathematics and the natural sciences.

A literacy program created by Associate Professor Jean Rattigan-Rohr received $2,500 to help purchase new books for young children tutored by 51±¬ÁÏÍø education majors.

The one-hour school receptions allowed students to introduce parents to faculty mentors, laugh with friends and recognize the people who helped make the last four years possible. 

The Class of 2014 is sending more scholars overseas next year with Fulbright English Teaching Assistant grants than any previous class in 51±¬ÁÏÍø history.

Natalie Sipala '15, early childhood minor and human service studies major, and Heidi Hollingsworth, assistant professor of education, co-authored an article in Milestones, a practitioner-oriented early care and education publication.

 

The article is titled "Using Cultural Artifacts to Understand Self and Other: A Global Exchange in Elementary Classrooms."

Scholars were recognized for making the President's or Dean's List, for being honored at the Black Excellence Awards program in April, for completing internships, for studying abroad and for participating in the Spring Undergraduate Research Forum.

The assistant professor of education recently published an article in the Journal for Science Teacher Education.

Alamance County students taking part in 51±¬ÁÏÍø's college access and success program gathered May 14, 2014, to hear words of wisdom from academy leaders and alumni as they prepare to graduate high school.

Two 51±¬ÁÏÍø students studying to be teachers and a School of Education staff member converted a newspaper stand to offer campus visitors a selection of books available for borrowing and return at no cost.
