Welcome to the Interprofessional Simulation Center (IPSC)聽in the School of Health Sciences.

The Interprofessional Simulation Center (IPSC) in the School of Health Sciences provides immersive, experiential learning opportunities designed to prepare healthcare students for real-world clinical practice. Through realistic simulation experiences, students are able to bring their medical textbooks to life while developing clinical skills, enhancing communication, strengthening teamwork, and improving patient care outcomes.

The IPSC Simulation Educators are dedicated to upholding the simulation Standards of Best Practices as defined by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH), ensuring learner psychological and physical safety throughout all simulation activities. Learners are encouraged to suspend disbelief and fully engage in intentionally designed simulation environments that support learning objectives, programmatic competencies, clinical reasoning, psychomotor skill development, and professional growth.

The IPSC serves students across the School of Health Sciences at both the Elon and Elon Charlotte locations. Through state-of-the-art simulation environments and innovative educational practices, the IPSC supports a variety of healthcare programs while fostering collaboration, communication, and interprofessional learning.

Elon Location

The Interprofessional Simulation Center in Elon is physically located in the Gerald Francis Center on the second floor of the building. The facility includes a simulation control area with a one-way window overlooking a 7-bed hospital bay, two prebriefing/debriefing rooms, a complete home healthcare setting, two hospital suites, a large ICU suite, and five standard clinical suites.

Elon Charlotte Location

Elon Charlotte provides an additional dedicated simulation environment supporting the educational needs of students in the Physician Assistant Studies and Clinical Mental Health Counseling programs. The facility includes a simulation control area with a one-way window overlooking a 7-bed hospital bay, seven standard clinical suites, and two hospital suites. Classrooms within the facility also serve as prebriefing and debriefing spaces, allowing learners to participate in reflection, feedback, and facilitated discussion following simulation experiences.

Both IPSC locations incorporate multiple simulation modalities, including task trainers, simulators, clients-to-class, and simulated participants. These modalities are integrated throughout the curriculum, allowing students to apply clinical knowledge and skills while receiving meaningful feedback and opportunities for continued improvement.

In May 2024, the Interprofessional Simulation Center received full accreditation in the area of Teaching/Education from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). Accreditation standards were met by demonstrating evidence of SSH Core Standards and criteria of seven sections, including Mission and Governance, Program Management, Resource Management, Human Resources, Program Improvement, Ethics, and Expanding the Field.

The mission of the Interprofessional Simulation Center is to embed simulation-based techniques into education and training for all participants to improve patient care outcomes, education, research, and multidisciplinary team performance.聽
