Representatives from the Office of Human Resources (HR) will host a New Hire Q&A for all new full-time faculty members. During this session, representatives will answer any questions that were not addressed in the online new hire orientation offered by HR.

This workshop session is designed for all instructors of courses enrolling primarily first-year students (e.g., intro. courses, COR 1100, ENG 1100, STS 1100, ELN 1010) and faculty and staff mentoring first-year students outside of the classroom. Focused on first-year pedagogies, this session will introduce you to the First-Year Experience at Elon and help you think about how to support students through transitions, prepare them to navigate college and become engaged learners, and build student self-efficacy and autonomy.

Inclusive excellence remains a strategy for creating an academic community reflective of well-being and a sense of belonging. In striving for greater levels of student success and employee vitality, initiatives across the university demonstrate partnerships and efforts to infuse inclusive excellence principles in daily work. This session is an opportunity to gain an update on what is happening to foster respect for human differences and to share ideas for ideas for how faculty and staff might make inclusive excellence embedded rather than additive in teaching, mentoring, and service.

12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m. - Center for Writing Excellence: Strategies for Designing AI-enhanced Writing Assignments
Location: Belk Pavilion 208
Intended Audience: Faculty and staff who teach writing in their programs who would like time to work on, or get feedback on, their writing assignments and want to discuss how AI impacts their writing instruction.
We’ll start this session with an overview of best practices in writing instruction, oriented toward developing students’ functional, critical, and rhetorical AI literacies through the teaching of AI enhanced writing assignments. After this overview, faculty will have focused time to work on their course writing assignments and to get feedback on them from the Writing Across the University Director (Dr. Paula Rosinski) and Writing Center Director (Dr. Julia Bleakney). Please bring drafts and your laptop, as this will be a working session. To help us plan the workshop, please by Monday, August 18. Lunch will be served.

Intended Audience:Â Â This workshop is for all new and continuing department chairs, including associate chairs and individuals who will be serving as interim chairs during the 2026-27 academic year.
This workshop will be the first in a series of Department Chair development sessions for 2026-27. This session will include several updates and training sessions on initiatives happening in the upcoming AY that impact your work as Department Chair.

Join the directors of the Elon College Fellows (ECF) program for an overview of the program, including expectations and information for mentors supporting fellows’ multi-year research and creative projects. This session will also include updates to the ECF course sequence, as well as an information session on proposal practices, timelines, and resources for guiding students through the proposal process.

3:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m. - Campus and Community Resource Fair
Location: Sato Commons – Great Hall
Residence Life is hosting a Campus and Community Resource Fair – Wednesday, Aug. 19 from 3-4:30pm in Sato Commons. While originally meant to be part of our student staff (RA+) training, we have expanded this event to invite other peer leaders across campus who will be around the week before move-in this fall. We may have close to 300 student leaders coming to learn about campus and community resources! We have shifted from calling this a Student Leader Resource Fair to a Campus and Community Resource Fair because we have invited all faculty/staff to come learn about key resources for supporting Elon students. This event is meant to be an interactive tabling fair to provide resources to student leaders and faculty/staff – RAs, Sr. RAs, apartment managers, house managers, Elon 1010 peer educators, orientation leaders, etc. – to highlight what everyone needs to know to provide resources to students. We hope to have about 60 departments/tables for everyone to explore and interact with – including our Inclusive Excellence office!

This meeting is for ANY student organization faculty advisor, new or returning. Discussion will center on updated Elon policies and procedures for student organizations and how you can help your leaders traverse the system. Additional information will be provided on how to be an effective advisor and student motivator, how to navigate PhoenixCONNECT, and on services available for your student organization. Join representatives from Student Involvement, the Moseley Center, and SGA for important updates.
